Babe labels can be found in department stores such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Fenwick, but their spiritual home is in boutiques up and down the country, from Coco Riboon and Anna in London, to Arkangel in Edinburgh.
"We're always looking for new labels," says Lulu Benson of Arkangel. "We want to entice customers who like the idea of wearing sonmething a bit different. It's not that there is anything wrong with buying a skirt from Topshop, but you don't want to feel like you're one of the 20,000 women wearing it." The Telegraph
"Being unable to find the clothes you want to buy in your
home town seems a rather drastic excuse to open a boutique.
But that's exactly what Janey Dalrymple and Lulu Benson decided
to do when they became frustrated at the lack of "groovy
little boutiques" in Edinburgh. Arkangel opened a few
weeks ago in the city's West End. The shop is full of a feminine
mixture of labels from home and abroad. Skirts and dresses
by Jessica Ogden and Camilla Ridley hang alongside cardigans
and camisoles from Ross & Bute.
They decided to open a boutique while shopping for antique
clothes together. "We both love vintage and contemporary
fashion and found it so difficult to find anything in Edinburgh."
says Dalrymple. Now their vintage collections, including Victorian
petticoats and cotton camisloes, are also for sale. Arkangel
already seems to have transformed life for some women north
of the border. One customer has even blown an inheritance
cheque on a summery dress. With a new Harvey Nichols opening
this autumn, it looks as though Edinburgh will soon be challenging
Glsagow's fashions." Daily Telegraph
"Janey Dalrymple and Lulu Benson call their shop, which sells
everything from Marilyn Moore and Anonymous to hand-picked
vintage items, a "boho boutique in the style of Notting
Hill." The store, which resembles a giant dressing-up
box, encourages customers to spend time trying on clothes
and accessories including a funky yet sophisticated line of
scarves, bags and jewellery." The Scotsman
